Your Guide to Orthopedic Care at Starling Physicians
Dealing with bone, joint or muscle pain can be overwhelming. As an orthopedic specialist at Starling Physicians, I want to help simplify the process and show you how we can work together to get you back to feeling your best.
What makes our orthopedic care different
At Starling Physicians, our goal is to be your trusted partner for muscle and bone issues. While our doctors have different specialties, we collaborate as a team to give you the comprehensive care you deserve.
Here’s what sets us apart:
- A Focus on You: We prioritize both surgical and non-surgical treatments, always considering the most conservative options first.
- Team-Based Approach: Our specialists work together on complex cases to ensure you receive the best possible outcome.
- Coordinated Care: As part of a large multi-specialty organization, we can easily coordinate your care.
- Conservative First: We believe surgery isn’t always the answer and explore all other options before recommending a procedure.
How to prepare for your first visit
To make your first appointment as smooth as possible, we encourage you to gather all your medical records, especially those concerning your reason for the visit.
This includes:
- Information on previous injuries or treatments you’ve had.
- Any X-rays, MRIs or other test results.
- Notes from other doctors about your condition.
If you’ve received care at Starling Physicians, Hartford HealthCare or Trinity of New England, please note we can access your medical records. However, bringing your own copies from other providers saves time and helps us give you better care, faster.
We don’t rush to surgery
A common misconception is that orthopedic doctors always recommend surgery first. At Starling Physicians, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We prioritize non-surgical treatments first, including but not limited to:
- Physical therapy
- Injections, including newer biologic treatments like platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
- Bracing and support
- Medication
- Weight management
Our team includes primary care sports medicine doctors and physician assistants who specialize in non-operative care. Our ultimate goal is to make you feel better, not to perform as many operations as possible.
When surgery is needed
If you do need surgery, the experience is better than ever as the field of orthopedics is advancing quickly. We can now plan your surgery on a computer using CT scans and robotic technology to customize the procedure to your specific anatomy.
Many procedures, including joint replacements, are now done in outpatient centers, allowing you to go home the same day. In some of our sub-specialty fields, such as hand surgery, smaller cases can even be performed in the office. Pain management has also improved dramatically, with less reliance on narcotic medications.
Ready to take the next step
If you’re facing an orthopedic problem, our team is here to help you get back to the activities you love. Whether you need a conservative treatment plan or a surgical procedure, we’ll work with you every step of the way.
