Biography

Akram Aljumail, DPM, is a member of the Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery team. Dr. Aljumail has always been drawn to work that directly impacts people’s lives. He chose podiatry after seeing how much foot and ankle issues can affect a person’s overall mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Dr. Aljumail’s expertise lies in diagnosing, treating, and preventing conditions affecting the foot and ankle. After undergraduate education at Wayne State University, he obtained his doctorate at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency training at Ascension Providence Hospital, a Michigan State University teaching facility where he served as Chief Resident. He pursued advanced training at the Michigan Minimally Invasive and Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship. While trained in all aspects of Podiatric surgery, his education has focused on minimally invasive and arthroscopic approaches, as well as reconstruction including total ankle replacements and diabetic limb salvage procedures.
Dr. Aljumail treats a wide range of patients, from pediatric deformities to athletes with sports-related injuries, to older adults dealing with chronic conditions like arthritis or diabetic foot complications. His approach to patient care is based on compassion, education, and collaboration. He believes in treating the whole person, not just the foot or ankle problem. He takes time to understand each patient’s lifestyle, goals, and concerns so they can create an evidence-based treatment plan that’s both effective and realistic for them. “Health care is a team effort, and a patient leaving with the comfort of knowing they had their concerns addressed is tantamount,” he says. Dr. Aljumail is passionate about increasing adequate access to health care, especially for the diabetic population.

When not at work, Dr. Aljumail enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors, mostly hiking. He also enjoys reading, traveling, trying new cuisines, and spending quality time with family and friends.
