Biography
Umair Khan, MD, is a board-certified Nephrologist and fellowship trained Transplant Nephrologist who specializes in caring for kidney transplant recipients across the continuum – from pre-transplant evaluation to post transplant management. He focuses on optimizing graft survival, preventing rejection, and improving the long-term health of patients living with kidney transplants.
Dr. Khan chose a career in healthcare to combine his passion for science and medicine with the opportunity to make a direct, meaningful impact on people’s lives. “My philosophy is to provide patient-centered care that balances advanced science with compassion. I strive to individualize therapy, empower patients through education, and partner with them for the best possible long-term outcomes,” he says. Dr. Khan is especially passionate about advancing equitable access to organ transplantation and advancing innovations that improve graft survival.
The most important aspect of any patient visit for Dr. Khan is building trust through attentive listening and clear communication. “As a transplant nephrologist, what I enjoy most is witnessing the transformative impact of transplantation on patients’ lives. It is deeply fulfilling to help restore not just kidney function, but also hope, independence, and quality of life,” he shares.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling to explore new cultures, and staying active through outdoor activities.
