Care for the Whole Family

At Starling Physicians, people now have a choice between doctors specializing in family medicine or internal medicine. In many ways, these types of doctors are similar: their common goal is to help you protect and improve your health.

A family medicine provider is a primary care physician, but the biggest difference is that internal medicine doctors care for adults, while a family practitioner cares for patients of all ages. They also receive training outside of general medicine in the areas of pediatrics, OB/GYN, and geriatrics. In addition, family doctors often perform in-office procedures which may include dermatology biopsies and excisions, osteopathic manipulation, joint injections, pap smears, and insertion of birth control devices.

Family medicine physicians are uniquely trained to care for the whole person throughout his or her life, from birth to old age. They also focus on meeting the needs of the entire family.

Whatever your age, gender, or medical condition, a family medicine doctor may be a good option to provide personalized, high-quality care for you and your family members. Our family medicine team sees patients in Hartford, Newington, and Enfield.

Key Differences Between Family Medicine & Internal Medicine

One of the biggest differences is that internal medicine doctors care for adults, while a family practitioner cares for patients of all ages.

Another difference is continuity of care. Family medicine physicians focus on meeting the needs of the entire family and are uniquely trained to care for the whole person throughout his or her life, from birth to old age.

A third difference is that family doctors often receive training outside of general medicine in the areas of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and geriatrics. Many also can perform in-office procedures such as pap smears, birth control placement, joint injections, and dermatology procedures such as biopsies and removals.

Why Our Doctors Chose Family Medicine

“I am very family-oriented and I bring this to the forefront of my patient care. I make sure that I treat all my patients as if they were all my own family. Caring for patients throughout their lifespan is a true honor.”

 Dr. Perrone

“ My goal is to provide the highest quality, most individualized, and thoroughly comprehensive care possible.”

Dr. Gygi

“My pediatric patients call me Dr. Smiley since I treat children as if they were my own and take great care in focusing on the totality of their needs”.

Dr. Iqbal

“ I enjoy family medicine which incorporates mental health and well-being in patient-centered care.”
