Rachel attended the University of Connecticut where she earned a B.S in Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Winchester Hospital in Massachusetts and at St. Raphael’s Hospital in cardiac telemetry units.

The majority of Mrs. Southard’s registered nursing work was spent at Yale New Haven Hospital in the medical intensive care unit. She attended Quinnipiac University where she earned a Master’s in Nursing in the adult nurse practitioner track. She worked as an APRN at Yale New Haven Hospital, focusing on pulmonary care including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, and interventional pulmonary.

Mrs. Southard is a clinical preceptor for Yale School of Nursing and she is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Connecticut APRNs. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, and traveling.
