Welcome to Our New Chief Executive Officer: Jim FairclothDecember 13, 2019
Over the past six months, Starling Physicians has conducted a nationwide search for a new CEO. There was significant interest in the position, emphasizing the unique opportunity Starling presents. After an intensive process, the Starling Board of Directors is pleased to announce Jim Faircloth as our next CEO. Starting January 6th, Jim will replace Tracy King, who has served as interim CEO since Dr. Jarrod Post stepped down from the position in May 2019.
Jim is a seasoned medical group practice executive who brings more than 25 years of diverse leadership experience gained within private medical group, health system, and consulting environments. Notably, over the last decade Jim was the CEO of Pinehurst Medical Clinic (PMC) in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The clinic is a large, independent multispecialty group practice with over 100 providers. PMC offers a broad range of primary and specialty care services, as well as a full range of ancillary services including labs, imaging, sleep centers, and pharmacy. While at PMC, Jim was integral in creating an accountable care network. He has experience negotiating both managed care and value-based contracts and worked closely with local large hospital systems developing infrastructure for physician networks, managed service organizations, and strategic planning initiatives. Jim received both his BA in Economics and MS in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Sarit Patel, Chairman of the Board, shares: “The Starling board is enthusiastic in our support of Jim Faircloth, as his proven leadership encompasses all aspects of physician practice management – network development, acquisitions, recruitment, contracting, compensation plans, operations, financial management, strategic planning, managed care contracting, and accountable care organization development.”
Jim ushers in a new era for Starling Physicians. For over 70 years, Starling Physicians (and its precursors, Grove Hill and Connecticut Multispecialty Group) have always had a physician serving as CEO on a part-time basis. This past June, the Starling partnership voted to allow a non-MD to be CEO. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Posner explains that, “As the healthcare landscape continues to grow increasingly complex, we determined that Starling could benefit from someone at the helm full-time with a strong business background, as well as in-depth experience in the medical arena. We are thrilled to have found someone with Jim’s background and are confident that Starling will continue to thrive under his leadership.”
