We Are Proud to Welcome Dr. Larry Suecof Back to Our Team

November 8, 2018

Dr. Larry A. Suecof is a podiatrist specializing in complete medical and surgical care of the foot and ankle. He has additional expertise and experience in limb salvage, including inpatient and outpatient care of wounds/ ulcerations, bone infections, and abscesses of the foot, ankle, and leg. He is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and additionally is a board-certified wound specialist.

He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine (now the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine), graduating in 1979. Residency and fellowship training in Podiatric Surgery and Limb Salvage/ Wound Care followed at Lutheran Hospital of Maryland/ University of Maryland Hospital and the New England Deaconess Hospital/ Joslin Clinic in Boston. He then began practice in Bloomfield in 1981 and quickly became the first surgical podiatrist to work inpatient at Hartford Hospital in 1982.

Dr. Suecof went on to start the Hartford Hospital Neuropathic Foot Center, the first multidisciplinary wound center in the state of Connecticut and one of the first in New England. He began this center at a time when specialized care for these very complex problems was almost impossible to find between Boston and New York.

His tenure at the Hartford Hospital clinic continued until 2008. In the intervening years from 1982 until 2008, Dr. Suecof moved from private practice to a hospital-based practice – again, being the first podiatrist in the state to join a multispecialty surgical group based at Hartford Hospital, the Connecticut Surgical Group. This group grew to four full-time podiatrists during Dr Suecof’s tenure.

During this time, in addition to his specialty of limb salvage, he continued to expand his practice relative to conservative non-surgical treatment of painful foot problems, as well utilizing his surgical skills to treat both simple and complex foot issues with a particular interest in surgical salvage procedures and treatment of feet ravaged by different types of arthritis.

In 2008, he moved to Florida to head up the inpatient limb salvage program at the 1100-bed Florida Hospital system in Orlando, Florida where he continued to hone his expertise in limb salvage treatment. While there, he was part of the team that developed an offloading orthotic system (OWLS by Orthomerica), which has been instrumental in helping to heal and salvage limbs non-surgically that, in many cases, might have required surgical intervention.

In addition to this, he also has extensive interest and experience in treatment of painful peripheral neuropathy (numbness and tingling) in the lower extremities, secondary to diabetes and other systemic diseases.

Dr. Suecof and his wife have three children and one grandchild. They decided to return home to Connecticut to join Starling Physicians in December of 2018.

He intends for his practice to cater to any and all types of foot problems requiring both non-surgical and surgical interventions, including preventive diabetic, vascular, and neuropathic routine foot care/ education, heel and plantar fascia pain, ingrown nails, arthritic foot conditions, bunions, hammertoes, and wounds, infections, and abscesses of the foot, ankle, and leg.

Dr. Suecof will see patients in Enfield and Glastonbury starting in February. We are now scheduling appointments. Call (860) 721-5733.
