  • Biography

    Dr. Madhavi Gorusu has been a Connecticut resident since 2000. She earned her medical degree from Andhra Medical College in India, and then completed a residency in internal medicine, partly through the Cleveland Clinic Health System and the University of Connecticut. She also completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology through UConn, and an elective in bone marrow transplant through the Yale University Blood Stem Cell Transplant Unit.

     In 2007 she joined Connecticut Multispecialty Group, now Starling Physicians, as a Hematologist and Oncologist.

    Dr.Gorusu is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

    She serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at University of Connecticut and plays an active role in teaching residents and fellows. Dr. Gorusu guides student’s author good learning cases to be written and published. Her publications have been published for Lymphoma Myeloma Conference, ASCO abstracts, ASH abstracts, Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics.

    She is the founder of the Mahatma and Martin Luther King Junior Foundation in India, and has published extensively on such topics as T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, drug interactions and rituximab-induced serum sickness masquerading as septic shock.

    Dr. Gorusu enjoys giving educational talks to the public and on several occasions has been invited by the Connecticut Leukemia Lymphoma Society to educate the community on various hematologic malignancies.

    Dr. Gorusu lives in Avon, CT with her husband and two children. She takes immense pleasure and pride in being involved with her children’s education and activities. Both her kids have been students of Hartt School of Music. Dr. Gorusu’s time off is spent seeing her kids excel in education, art, and sports. Both her children play music for patients and families on a regular basis on the Oncology unit at Hartford Hospital and for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

    Dr. Gorusu is fluent in other languages including Telugu,Hindi. She has learned and continues to learn the traditional dance form of India, Kuchipudi since age 4. In addition to several hundreds of performances since childhood, one she cherishes most is when is performed along with her daughter in 2010 in India for the Guinness book of World Records.

    Dr. Gorusu shares an interesting presentation on cancer prevention in the Asian community. Asian Americans face increased rates of breast and colon cancer which can partially be attributed to cultural barriers and lack of screenings. Click here to view her presentation >
