Meet Our Metabolic Specialist

Dr. Christine Najjar grew up in the Hudson Valley region of New York and spent most summers in her parents’ native country, Lebanon. As an undergraduate, she majored in Biochemistry at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. She completed medical training at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, and Brooklyn, New York. While in medical school, she also received her Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition at Columbia University. She completed her Primary Care Internal Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Najjar is passionate about utilizing food as medicine. She prescribes personalized nutrition plans for the treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related chronic conditions, as well as for inflammatory and gut disorders. She has experience implementing low carbohydrate lifestyles, elimination protocols, and fasting regimens.

Dr. Najjar joins our Internal Medicine team in Enfield. She looks forward to incorporating a food first approach in primary care, helping patients maintain a healthy lifestyle, and guiding those in need of weight-loss strategies.

Dr. Najjar’s Personal Journey
Food is composed of 3 macronutrients. When eaten, each nutrient triggers varying levels of insulin.

Dr. Najjar became an expert in metabolic medicine through her own experience struggling with weight loss and insulin resistance. If you are at the supermarket and are overwhelmed by the number of options, you are not alone! Sometimes what you think maybe a healthy choice may actually be a poor choice that is loaded with hidden fats or preservatives.

Dr. Najjar shares her suggestions for busy people on the go who don’t cook. She suggests options for packaged foods with fewer sugars and starches and cleaner ingredients. When buying packaged food, she urges to: always read labels, choose options with fewer ingredients, and pick packaged foods that contain more protein than total carbohydrates.
